July 8, 2005 - Day 3 of Remodel

Day 3: Today the crew removed all the concrete from the (former) patio.

They then used an add-on to the Bobcat to begin removing dirt around the house to get down to the foundation. That's about 3 to 3 1/2 feet down (see photos below).

See photos of the front yard to see all the trees, bushes, and other material removed so far.

The entire backyard sprinkler system has been removed.

July 7, 2005 - Day 2 of Remodel

Our fence is down, and a giant Bobcat earthmover is camped out on our back lawn (see the photo of our cat, Tabby, checking out the new guest).

A large portion of our terraced-area has been dug out to allow the machinery access to our backyard.

Large portions of the wood retaining wall are gone. The vegetable bed is cut in half.

The entire patio structure is now gone. It's amazing how big our backyard looks without it. Sunlight streams into our bathroom now, making it very light!

The concrete patio has been broken up into chunks, and will be removed tomorrow. The concrete was much thicker than we thought.

July 6, 2005 - Day 1 of Remodel

Day 1 of our remodel.

The Contractor started this afternoon, and removed portions of the patio roof and windows.

Also, our side gate has been cut and placed off to the side (they will replace it once all the work is done).

July 5, 2005 - The Day Before the Remodel

The day before the remodel begins.

A view of our home as it has stood since 1950.

We are doing a single-story edition: adding a large den and dining room, a laundry room, an office, and a master bedroom and bathroom.
